Why the seat matters

A volcano is the only show in this programme that can hurt you, and the seats closest to the action are the ones the authorities close first. Everything here is a negotiation between angle and access: the Valle del Bove viewpoints show the lava rivers that the summit approaches hide, and the town terraces show almost as much for none of the risk.

Cadence
Unscheduled. It happens when it happens.

Dataset note. Eruptions are not scheduled and access is controlled by the Prefecture and INGV. This show simulates an active-paroxysm night; it is not a statement that Etna is erupting.

Every seat, ranked

Seat fit is the simulator’s own score — darkness, open horizon, historical clear-sky odds, altitude and reachability, weighted for what this show cares about. It ranks seats against each other; it is not a forecast for any night. Tap a seat for the full card.

Etna is genuinely visible from central Catania during strong activity; this seat is honest about a low-effort option actually working.

What is actually happening

Etna's signature paroxysms are Strombolian to lava-fountain eruptions driven by gas exsolving from basaltic magma as it decompresses. Fountains reach several hundred metres and incandescent material at 1,000–1,100 °C lights the underside of its own ash plume, which is why the glow is visible from fifty kilometres away. The eruption column is dark; everything you see is reflected light on gas and ash from the fire beneath it.

Other shows

Front Row is a planning simulator on a curated dataset. Every place and coordinate is real; elevation, Bortle class, horizon obstruction and cloud odds are researched estimates for the site and season — climatology and site character, not a forecast. Background skies are rendered by the simulator, not photographed. Verify real conditions and access with an authoritative local source before you travel.
