Why the seat matters

A quiet arc lives between 5° and 20° above the northern horizon — precisely the band a fjord wall deletes. Lofoten's mountains are spectacular and they are also in the way. Sea-level beaches facing open water see the whole arc and get the reflection for free; ridges buy you a clean skyline for ninety minutes of climbing.

Every seat, ranked

Seat fit is the simulator’s own score — darkness, open horizon, historical clear-sky odds, altitude and reachability, weighted for what this show cares about. It ranks seats against each other; it is not a forecast for any night. Tap a seat for the full card.

What is actually happening

Solar wind particles funnelled down Earth's magnetic field lines collide with atoms 90 to 300 km up. Oxygen fluoresces green at 557.7 nm and, much higher and rarer, deep red; nitrogen adds the pink-violet fringe along the lower edge. The display sits in an oval centred on the geomagnetic pole, so from Lofoten at 68°N a quiet night puts the arc low in the north, and a substorm throws it overhead into a corona.

Other shows

Front Row is a planning simulator on a curated dataset. Every place and coordinate is real; elevation, Bortle class, horizon obstruction and cloud odds are researched estimates for the site and season — climatology and site character, not a forecast. Background skies are rendered by the simulator, not photographed. Verify real conditions and access with an authoritative local source before you travel.
